EV Charging FAQ

The more you know about EV charging, the more comfortable you'll feel purchasing alternative energy for your next ride. Here's a look at some of the top charging FAQ and answers at Mercedes-Benz of Orange Park.

What Kinds of Chargers Are There?

There are three levels of charging when it comes to alternative energy vehicles. Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 (also known as DC Fast Charging). Level 1 charging is the lowest level and reserved mostly for plug-in hybrid vehicles. Level 2 charging works for both electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, and Level 3 charging is best for electric cars, because it has the highest voltage.

What Kind of Charger Would I Install in My Home?

Home chargers are typically Level 2 chargers. That's because Level 1 charging is already available through the outlets. Level 3 charging has a voltage that is too high for residential homes, which is why Level 3 charging is only available at public stations.

How Do I Find an Electric Vehicle Charging Station?

The best way to find electric vehicle charging stations is by using an app. There are three main charging networks, each of which has their own app. You can also use third-party apps with comprehensive maps of all nearby stations, including their availability and charging levels.

Are There Subsidies for Charger Installation?

Yes! The savings on electric vehicles, like the 2022 EQS, don't end with the vehicle, itself. There are also tax credits and incentives available for charger installation, up to about 30% or $1,000, which helps to reduce the overall cost of installation and EV ownership.
